DOHA BANK SME CUSTOMER INTERFACE A GRAND SUCCESS

'Tatweer' - The new comprehensive SME Financial package - was explained to the Doha Bank customers in the customer meets held in Mesaieed branch, Al-Khor branch, Musherib branch and Salwa Road branch of Doha Bank during March, 2009. This is the first phase of bank's ongoing customer interfaces to promote SME financing.

These meetings started with an introductory speech by Mr. Kevin Cain, Head of Wholesale Banking Division, who outlined the banks vision in promoting this product. He explained the importance of this segment in the overall development of the economy and the government's recent initiatives to promote this segment. Mr. Kevin highlighted the august gatherings, the role played by SME segment in the overall economic and social development of progressive economies across the globe. He also touched upon the renewed interest shown by IMF in promoting this segment of the industry. Mr. A Sekar, Head of Corporate & Commercial Banking Division mentioned that Doha Bank has been associated with the financing of SME segment for a long period of time. He mentioned that the entrepreneurial spirit and innovativeness of SME segment towards nation building was commendable and that it required more financial support from the banking industry. Through 'Tatweer' the bank is addressing requirements which are unique to this segment. Doha Bank's due recognition of the SME segment's role in the economic & social development of the State of Qatar and the bank's understanding of the requirements of this segment has led to the development of this product 'Tatweer', which provides a comprehensive range of products & services to meet the SME segment's unique banking and financial needs.

Mr. Deepthie Yatiyawela, Head of SME Banking explained elaborately the 16 product offerings to the SME segment. He said 'Doha Bank now offers loan products, trade finance products, service products and a deposit product to the SME segment players. We now cater to the financing needs of trading companies, large grocery/super-markets, supply contract companies, various service providers, restaurants, and transport companies etc., who are registered and operational in the State of Qatar. Mr. Deepthie highlighted the product offering for SME players right from financing for the purchase of inventories (both imports and local purchases), to financing for day-to-day working capital, need for letter of guarantees facilities, need for term loans for medium & long-term expansions, need for electronic based service products, details of the specially designed insurance products etc., that have been pro-actively bundled by Doha Bank and offered to the SME segment players.

This initiative of closer customer interaction was well received by the participants and the bank would be repeating this methodology in other braches shortly.

Doha Bank's 'Tatweer' was launched in February 2009. This offering consists of a whole range of products and services to cater to the needs of the SME segment. The bank is using the branch network channel for marketing this product. For the convenience of customers, dedicated SME units have been setup in Industrial Area, Al-Khor, Mushareib, Salwa, Mesaieed and Najma branches of the bank. More units will be added to this list in the coming days.
